Binky Patrol

Sue Waters, one of our Sewin' Sisters, sews for Binky Patrol, and is the primary person who does most of the cutting and sewing of the blankets. She has them ready for her group to tie the fronts and back together when they meet.

Hat/mitten/scarf efforts

As we approach the cold weather season here in Harrisburg there is a profound need for warm outer wear.  The Sewing Sisters Sowing group works with other textile groups in the area to produce and collect hats, mittens, and scarves for those in need.  These offerings are then collected in one facility and matched to make complete sets.

The volunteers from the groups meet to coordinate these sets once a year, usually in late November.  These sets are then given to City of Refuge Evangelism (CORE).  The administrator for CORE, Scott Heiland, will then distribute these warm accessories to those who need the extra wintertime protection.

This project began as a way to meet the needs of the younger members of our society through CORE and the schools.  Over the years the need increased.  All the groups stepped up production to be able to meet the growing need.  Children and adults both receive the benefits of our largesse.

We all have been blessed by this mission.  As we produce the hats, mittens, and scarves we think about how fortunate we are to be able to provide this small but meaningful token of care for our brothers and sisters in need.

All materials for this, and other of our efforts, are donated to us by caring individuals like you.  If you have extra yarn, fleece, or other fabrics and notions that you need to find a “good home” for, please contact us by calling Marcellene Currens at 717-561-9964.
